On this day the Lord has made . . .

As I was driving home from the grocery store I heard a man on the radio ask what we were leaving our children/grandchildren. He mentioned how he would choose, over any amount of money, the writings from his grandfather . . . if he had left any.

So, I have determined to create a diary/journal of what happened to me on this day(s) the Lord has granted me.

Cost of buying a new house October/November 2025

First expense was the earnest deposit once I decided and won the ability to purchase a house. I got lucky. The guy I was buying from was happy with $1000.00. The realtor said that it is usually 1% of the purchase price. I wasn't happy about the $18 fee that was tacked on when I paid via their website. These fees add up! Today I paid for my appraisal. That charge was $500. My banker said that I would get this money back when I bought the house. He said banks started charging for the appraisal because so many people backed out and they were left hanging with the cost. Saturday I will be paying for inspections on the house. I'm getting a whole house inspection for $350, $60 for a termite inspection, $130 for Radon testing, and sewer for $145. He said that if I paid in cash the day of that he would give me a $20 reduction. I'm quite excited about one savings. Since I'm moving from a higher crime area to a more rural setting my car insurance will be going down in cost. Right now my 19 year old grandson pays $746/6 months for his 2002 Grand Cherokee Jeep. I pay $486. Once we move our insurance will be $596 and $409.Hey, every little bit helps! Insurance: Current house yearly payment is $2407 with a $500 deductible. I called to get an estimate for the new house and it will be $2265. This includes earthquake protection and water damage. The deductible takes a huge jump. Wind or hail will cost me $3,330 and anything else will be $1665. I was going to go shop around for a different company but that seems an insurmountable task.

  • O Merciful God, who hast made all men, and hatest nothing that thou hast made, nor desirest the death of a sinner, but rather that he should be converted and live; Have mercy upon all who know thee not as thou are revealed in the Gospel of thy Son. Take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of thy Word; and so fetch them home, blessed Lord to thy fold, that they may be one flock under one shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.
