Luke 10:25-42

Dr. J Vernon McGee

The good Samaritan

The man asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbor"

A certain man fell among thieves who wounded him and stripped him of his things and left him half dead.

A priest came that way, saw him and passed on the other side.

A levite looked on him and passed on the other side.

Only the samaritan stopped to help him.

The three classes of men are like 3 philosophy's of life

thieves = socialism/communism. take what they want.

priest/levites = individualism/capitalism godless capitalism. you don't have anything i want. no reason to even think about you.

good samaritan = what i have is yours if you need it or if i can help - christian philosophy of life

we are like the man who fell into thieves - humanity

the thieves (devil)

priests = ritualism and ceremonialism - can't save - just passes by

levite = passed by. won't save - legalism

the samaritan - Christ - the one who told the parable. he is the one who helps. he is able to bind up the broken

any person you can help is your neighbor

anyone who needs Christ

3 systems in the world today

drowning in ritualism and formalism - tells them how to swim but doesn't help them

legalism and liberalism - push the cross towards him and say hang on

only Christ reaches down and helps us up. literally came down to help us up :0)

(Excuse the mess of this. I plan on cleaning it up but I wanted to type notes as I listened to the sermon again. Too many misspellings!)
