I didn’t want you guys to think that I was being ‘holier than thou’ about my music.
Staci, you were the one who opened my mind about the fact that we needed to pay attention to what our children watch. You said something back when your kids were little while you were here one visit. You were talking about the violence and you wouldn’t let your kids have toy guns. Think about what the kids have now. Cartoons that are completely moronic/violent (they are actually teaching that it is ok to lie to your parents because they lie to you (Supah Ninja) and all kinds of other things that are just wrong) and the kids play video games where they cut themselves off from everyone real around them and kill for hours on end.
Then, I heard the song, “be careful little eyes what you see”, and the more I read, and the more I hear, (actually I should say the less crap I hear and the more good I heard) my heart has changed. I honestly believe that the Holy Spirit is changing me in almost every aspect. I don’t like to read junk. I don’t like to hear junk. I don’t like to watch junk or read junk. It has all just become irritating noise and a waste of time.
I prefer to be singing songs of praise when I’m driving down the road. Think about it – God created us. He sent His Son to redeem us from sin and death. He will transform us when He is ready. Why isn’t He worthy of praise? Pretty much continual praise? I want to learn all I can about Him and about what will be happening. I find it all fascinating and my heart just soars!
So, it isn’t me thinking I’m better than anyone. Oh my gosh, I feel the complete opposite. This is just my preference. I still like music – love music. But, I prefer music that is praising God or music that is helping me become a different person. Someone who thinks about something more than myself – that’s just what I need.
Since you guys do have kids, I would ask that you think about what they are listening to and watching on tv and how they are spending their time. If you ask God to give you eyes to see – you’ll be horrified at what their baby hearts, minds and souls are being subjected to.
Please don’t think less of me because I may not be the coolest kid on the block. I’m still your sister and I still love you guys with every fiber of my being. (And your children too.)
I was hurt because neither one of them replied for quite a while but then Mendy wrote back, "I would never think less of you – this makes me think more! "
