I'm listening to Chip Ingram talk about being a Romans 12 Christian. I stopped listening to him and decided to read Romans 12. While I was reading Romans 12 I decided to paraphase in my own language what was written.
Romans 12 (Talks of being a Christian)
Present your bodies as a living sacrifice – this is your reasonable service.
Don’t be conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind so that you can prove what is good, acceptable and perfect, the will of God.
Don’t think highly of yourself, but think soberly, God has given every man the measure of faith. (It’s God’s gift the amount of faith you have.)
There are many members in this body and we don’t offer the same function within the body.
We are one body in Christ and everyone is a member, one of another.
We have gifts that differ according to what God has given us. If yours is prophecy, then prophecy according to the proportion of faith given to you.
If it is ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or teaching, then teach;
If it is exhortation, then do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor evil and cling to that which is good.
Be kind and affectionate to each other with brotherly love; prefer and honor those in Christ.
Don’t be lazy in business; be fervent in spirit and serve the Lord;
Rejoice in hope; be patient in tribulation; continue in prayer;
Take care of the saints and be hospitable.
Bless those that persecute you – don’t curse them.
Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those that weep.
Be of the same mind toward each other. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Don’t be wise and conceited.
Don’t repay evil for evil. Be honest in all things in the sight of men.
Live peaceably with all men as much as you can.
Don’t avenge yourself but give place unto wrath; for it is written, Vengence is mine; I will repay says the Lord.
Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if thirsty, give him drink; for in doing this you will heap coals of fire on his head.
Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
(The italics are for me, so that I'll look up what this means.)You know this is a good series if you have to keep stopping the CD so you can look something up or so that you can think about what is being said.
Now Chip is talking about letters from a prison. Tears are just flowing because I think of those people. How they've hurt and how they have been hurt. How they long to walk with God and how they want to share this walk with others. How my son was hurt and how can I share this with him?!?
