For a Blessing on the Families of the Land.
ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who settest the solitary in families; We commend to thy continual care the homes in which thy people dwell. Put far from them, we beseech thee, every root of bitterness, the desire of vain-glory, and the pride of life. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness. Knit together in constant affection those who, in holy wedlock, have been made one flesh; turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to the fathers; and so enkindle fervent charity among us all, that we be evermore kindly affectioned with brotherly love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
(From the 1928 Book of Common Prayer)
Michael and Lindsay had lunch with me at Coach's today. It was so nice just sitting together and talking. We got around to talking about a few serious subjects like abortion and homosexuality. When I mentioned that I didn't agree with homosexual lifestyle or marriage they both got this funny look on their faces. Michael finally asked me when this happened? Lindsay said something along the lines of "was it when you found Jesus?" Normally when she says that she is making fun of me but this time she asked it differently. It hit me that it is exactly when this happened. I mean, I feel like I've always loved Jesus but there was a definite time when my whole life changed and both of my children know. This makes me happy but it makes me very sad because I didn't raise them knowing Jesus and I certainly wasn't living right if even my children can see a huge difference in me. The two people who are closest to me in this life didn't know I loved Jesus until just recently.
My constant prayer to God is for them and their families that they would know God and love and worship Him teaching Him to their children and their children and their friends and extended families.
