Coming in to work this morning the preacher mentioned Matthew 7:21-23
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Well, this verse has always scared me. I have had actual dreams of standing before God at His throne with Him looking down on me and shaking His head - no.
After hearing the preacher this morning, I finally go-ogled the verse to learn more about what others are saying, and came across this page and what they say makes perfect sense. Here are some excerpts:
"Many are teaching that calling Jesus Lord guarantees a person a place in heaven, although Jesus here denies it. According to Jesus, many will call Him Lord, and even have supernatural signs of knowledge and power following their lives, who will not even enter heaven."
"Many in the church today believe that they now that they have "believed in Jesus" they can sin as much as they want or more because they are born-again sons of God that can never lose that status with God. They have confessed Christ as Lord with their mouth at some point, and now they are living pretty much as they want to. There is not that true respect for the authority of Jesus Christ in their lives. They are pretty sure the blood of Jesus covers them no matter what they do, say or believe now. Some of them may actually condemn those who teach the need to be faithful to Jesus Christ."
"Because of who Christ is, and what He has done for us, we should all be moved to seek after Him and consistently please Him out of gratitude and holy fear. There is an emphasis in the church today which equates any idea of the fear of God with legalism. But someone truly in love with our awesome God will appreciate Who they are dealing with, and if they do sin, will be quick to confess and repent before God."How do we wake each other up? So many people say they are Christians but spend less time with Christ than they spend taking the trash out to the curb for pickup.
"Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, He will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with him." (John 14:23)."
If you love God spend time with Him.
His words are easily found - the Bible. Ask for the wisdom and the Holy Spirit will open your eyes.
Do not listen to what the world says and stay submerged in television, shopping and errands. Please go to a quiet place, ask God to send his Holy Spirit to guide you and then open up your Bible and begin to read. Turn your radio stations to a Christian station. Listen to music that is full of praise and words that are full of instruction. Start looking towards the people you surround yourself with and find people who have a heart for Christ and are living that life. Don't give up on your other friends but you need to enrich yourself and to grow towards Christ and away from the way of the world. Just wait and see. God is not just our creator He is also our savior. He is amazing, wonderful, frightening and soothing. He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
