On this day the Lord has made . . .

As I was driving home from the grocery store I heard a man on the radio ask what we were leaving our children/grandchildren. He mentioned how he would choose, over any amount of money, the writings from his grandfather . . . if he had left any.

So, I have determined to create a diary/journal of what happened to me on this day(s) the Lord has granted me.

knee replacement

I had another knee replaced on November 7, 2017.  I went into the hospital on Tuesday and I was out on Thursday. While I was there I saw physical therapist, nurses, etc. They kept the pain managed. This time I did have quite a bit of trouble with muscle spasms. They gave me a muscle relaxer and that helped.

My daughter took me home. We had to call my daughter-in-law to go pick up the prescription for pain medicine because they had sent it to the other side of the city. I stayed home by myself once they got me all settled in. Before I left for surgery I set out everything I would need. Food, water, extended toilet seat, seat for the bath, etc. I have a baby cam that I use to peek in on my animals while I am at work. I set it up on my daughters phone, so they could peek in on me. That helped her worry less. The grandkids had fun talking to me and the dogs through that cam.

Physical therapy came to my home for two weeks. Nice guy and he kept me moving. This week I start therapy out of my home.  Physical therapy is so boring to me. I want to buy an exercise bike and just use that here at home. But I’ll attend one or two sessions to see if they come up with a reason for me to use them.

There is still quite a bit of bruising but thankfully that is fading. I am still taking pain meds, but I am trying to wean off of those and just use Tylenol. This time it hurts to be in the driver’s seat. Which is weird since this is my left leg. My seat is just uncomfortable. Probably why I am not driving so much this time.

I just wanted to write this down in case anyone searches for knee replacement surgery.

So, this is my story up until now regarding this last knee replacement surgery. I hope yours goes as well as mine has.

Oh, I forgot the fun part of my surgery. My surgeon is older, and he is so tiny. I’m a big woman with a big leg. Come to find out he told my daughter after the surgery that he passed out during my surgery. The day I checked out the nurse tried to get hold of him to rectify the mistake they made with sending my prescription so far away. They couldn’t contact him because he was in surgery. The nurse said that it was him who was in surgery – having surgery. But all is well. I have a different scar than the right leg. This is a straight-line scar while the other knee has a pretty cool scar. Luckily, I’m not vain. I was worried this straight cut would be more uncomfortable, but it hasn’t been.

Don’t be like me and wait until your are crooked and bent before you have your knees fixed. Do it as soon as you can.
