This morning I decided to do my Bible study using the actual in my hands Bible coupled with my online study. Chapter 9 of Genesis, in the McArthur Bible, has a map to show where Noah and his family lived. So I turned to the map and in doing so I came across some notes I had taken a few years ago. A list of prayers for people was among the notes. Two of the men on that list are no longer living. My cousin Curt and my boss, Roger.
Roger, I got to see come to want to know Jesus. Curt said he was good and didn't need to talk about Jesus at all. He actually said that I talk too much just like his sister Lizanne. He wanted off the phone to talk with a pretty nurse he liked. He died very soon after that. He was in the hospital for liver failure.
I used to think it was silly to write down prayers and would have laughed at adding dates to them. But you know what, it is such a glorious feeling when you realize just how many prayers have been answered. Dating them allows me to put them in a time and a place. I can remember, for instance, how Roger used to make fun of me for loving God. I can remember Charlotte and I entering an elevator just as Roger and a bunch of his friends were getting off. He turned and looked at us and said where are you going? For a second I hesitated because I didn't want him to make fun of me. But then I realized that I truly was not ashamed of where I was going and I did want him/them to come with us. So I said we are going to Bible study. Do you want to come with us?
It was some time after that he changed. He came to me and told me that he was reading a book on Jesus. Unfortunately, it wasn't the Bible, and I know that what he was reading was way off the mark BUT it was about Jesus. I could see that Roger was interested. Roger and his wife started going to church some. Please don't think it was that moment in the elevator that changed Roger. I know of many of us who were talking to Roger about God. It wasn't just me. Plus, it is God who calls people to Him. The rest of us just got to be part of it for His glory.
My point is - God hears our prayers and he answers them. I love how God tells us to pray. He already knows what He is going to do but He is calling us into the relationship with Him and with the people we prayed for.
Anthony still needs our prayers. He has a big family that he takes care of and he wants to study for the ministry. Andrew is doing well but could always use prayers. Que's Mom has heart problems and definitely needs our prayers so do Que and her son. I so want them both to find their spouses so that they can have a partner in this life to worship God with and to share that love with the rest of us.
