On this day the Lord has made . . .

As I was driving home from the grocery store I heard a man on the radio ask what we were leaving our children/grandchildren. He mentioned how he would choose, over any amount of money, the writings from his grandfather . . . if he had left any.

So, I have determined to create a diary/journal of what happened to me on this day(s) the Lord has granted me.

By Faith

This morning I woke up troubled. You know that feeling, when you have something in the back of your mind that keeps bothering you, nagging you, but you can't quite define it and you really haven't put much energy towards erasing the thought. I'm not sure you could anyway - until it is formed and ready to be asked and answered.

I woke up thinking, Lord, what I am to do? How do I know if I am a child of God? How do I answer that question?

That verse about many calling upon the Lord and Him not knowing them - THAT is what bothers me. It has been THAT verse that keeps running around in the back of my mind like a nagging and bitter headache. So many people think they are okay with God because they believe. I hope I am okay with Christ because I believe . . . but this verse keeps coming up:

Matthew 7:

I Never Knew You

21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?'23 And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'
This is why I like journal-ling. Those thoughts come out once you start typing and talking.

So, I turned to my bedside table and I picked up my pretty purple Bible. I just love that Bible. It is soft and silvery and purple and elegant and so full of wisdom and comfort.

Hebrews 11

I highlighted the first words I saw.

By Faith

How do I know I am a child of God?

By Faith

Look at the way Hebrews 11 is written. 'By Faith' starts every new thought. By faith Abel, By faith Abraham, By faith Moses, By faith the people, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jepthah, David, Samuel and the prophets . . .

Then Hebrews 12:

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

By Faith! By faith will I live my life. I know that I am a child of God because He is changing me. I have concrete evidence right in my heart and in my mind and in the Bible. In the Bible it speaks of fruits - fruits of the Holy Spirit, in me, are a changed heart. I'm not anywhere near done mind you - but I can feel the changes.

Study to find yourself approved. II Timothy 2:15

You don't just believe. If you believe then you will want to know. Once you start knowing you will see where faith has led others and you will know. Plus, Jesus himself says it: if you believe you will do the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Faith is a gift. Faith is a great foundation for our lives, a great comfort. The work of our lives should be learning and loving our God.
